Athletics NZ are pleased to announce two athletes who will represent New Zealand at the Oceania Area Half Marathon and Marathon Championships in the Gold Coast, Australia on the 1st July.
Oska Baynes has been selected for the Half Marathon distance and Nick Horspool for the Marathon.
Coached by Matt Ingram, Baynes has had some impressive results so this season over some shorts distance. In 2017, he came second in the NZ half Marathon Championships and was NZ Champion in 2016 and 2012.
36 year-old Horspool recently won the Hawke's Bay Marathon. He was the top-ranked NZ resident marathon runner for 2017 and placed 5th in the 2017 Melbourne Marathon. He won the 2016 Rotorua Marathon and was the NZ Marathon Champion as a result.
The Championships will be staged in conjunction with the annual Gold Coast Marathon, which is an IAAF Gold Label event that attracts around 25,000 participants. We wish both runners the best of luck.
