16 October Update - Athletics under an Alert Level 2

Athletics NZ has updated advice previously released on 8 October.

All of New Zealand is at Alert Level 2, except for Auckland, Northland, and parts of the Waikato district, which are at Level 3.

Today we are sharing another update from Sport NZ, who have once again changed previously issued advice around gathering restrictions at Alert Level 2.

Once again there is a maximum of 100 people for indoor or outdoor gatherings, (excluding officials and other ‘workers’ i.e. organisers).

Athletics NZ wishes to acknowledge the confusion and frustration caused by this shifting advice, and especially acknowledges those who had events affected this weekend.

Athletics NZ members and stakeholders are encouraged to keep up the good practice that we have seen thus far around the country, including contact tracing and record keeping, physical distancing, face coverings, as well as cleaning and good hygiene.

Athletics NZ has updated our Community Guidelines for Alert Level 2-3, and all clubs are encouraged to review and follow these guidelines. In addition we have updated our Advice and Guidance for Coaches at Alert Levels 2 and 3, which we encourage all coaches to review. Our Community Guidelines for Auckland at Alert Level 3 remain unchanged.

For further details on the measures that we need to follow under Alert Level 3 and Alert Level 2, please visit the New Zealand Covid-19 Website.
