2025 FISU World University Games Selection Policy Released

Athletics NZ is pleased to announce the 2025 FISU World University Games selection policy.
This competition is scheduled to be held 21 – 27 July in Rhine Ruhr, Germany.
Athletics NZ High Performance Athlete Development Lead, Tim Driesen, will serve as Team Leader for this competition. Further members of management (i.e. operations, coaches, physio, etc.) will be confirmed once the team make up is known following selection announcement.
Coaches who wish to express an interest in being considered for team management should review the staffing process in the selection policy (refer to clauses 11.11-11.14).

Please note:
The upcoming Compulsory Selection Competitions (refer to clause 6 in the selection policy) are the:
– 2025 NZ Track and Field Championships on 6-9 March in Dunedin
– 2025 NZ Combined Events Championships on 22-23 March in Auckland
The deadline for athletes to confirm their selection will be no later than 48-72 hours after the publishing of the relevant selection announcement on the Athletics NZ website to meet the entry process deadlines as set by UTSNZ and FISU. This tight deadline enables the Athletics NZ qualification periods to remain open as long as possible while still allowing time for the selection panel to consider athletes for selection and for the Athletics NZ Board to ratify athlete selections prior to the relevant Selection Announcements.
Two qualification periods have been determined based on the approximate ‘season’ for relevant athletes. The final entry deadline set by FISU unfortunately does not allow for the Athletics NZ qualification period for overseas based athletes to include the 2025 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Therefore, the Athletics NZ qualification periods have been set to allow for a similar amount of time in the anticipation that overseas based athletes may have been able to compete prior to the Christmas period and that these performances may be able to be considered.
