2025 Oceania Cup Team Announced
It’s Tonga time for the group of 12 emerging New Zealand athletes selected to represent New Zealand and gain valuable international experience at the 2025 Oceania Cup, set to take place in Nuku’alofa, Tonga, from 29 October to 1 November.Â
The New Zealand team features 12 selected athletes and 5 non-travelling reserves, selected as part of a development initiative aimed at providing valuable international competition for our up-and-coming Kiwis aged between 16-22 years old. Â
Held at Teufaiva Stadium, the Oceania Cup marks the first international track and field event in the Kingdom since 1998. The event is one of the few opportunities in 2025 for rising athletes from across Oceania to compete at a high level against the best in the region.
The Oceania Cup is a team-based, points-scoring competition, with athletes representing different areas of the Pacific: Australia, New Zealand, Tonga, Micronesia, Melanesia and Polynesia.Â
Selectors noted the significant level of interest and talent in our U23 categories, with large numbers of athletes submitting expressions of interest to be part of this team. As a point scoring competition and a small team, the selected athletes needed to be able to compete in at least two events at a competitive level. Athletics New Zealand’s team brings a mix of talent across track and field, reflecting the strength of the next generation coming through the ranks. Congratulations to all selected athletes. Â
