Athletics NZ can confirm that the forthcoming permit meets at Cooks Classic, Whanganui on Sunday Jan 30, the Capital Classic, Wellington on Friday 4 February and the SolarPower Throws meet on Saturday 5 February will proceed at a red traffic light setting.

We are currently working closely with the meet directors to enable the events to take place while adhering to all government requirements.

With the Omicron variant of Covid-19 circulating in the community, the Government yesterday (Sunday) announced the whole of New Zealand move from an orange to a red traffic light setting at 11.59pm on Sunday. At a red traffic light setting gatherings for fully vaccinated people are restricted to pods of no more than a 100 people.

We fully understand that new restrictions will impact on the delivery of the meets, and we also acknowledge that each meet has individual characteristics which differ from each other. In the meantime, we will continue to work closely with event organisers to help them deliver their respective meetings and we will update more in due course.

Note, all competing athletes need to stay tuned for information on the email addresses that they registered with and to read any correspondence carefully. Regular updates for athletes, coaches and fans of the sport will be made on the Cooks Classic website and Capital Classic website.
