2020 New Zealand Trail Running Championships

A bus and a boat ride just to get to the start line of the 2020 Crater Rim Ultra 53KM event (also the 2020 Athletics New Zealand Trail Running Championship) sees runners take on Mt. Herbert (tallest mountain on Banks Peninsula) on through private farmland before passing by the historic Packhorse Hut built in 1914 by Harry Ell as a rest house for a proposed summit route from Christchurch to Akaroa. Competitors then run out to Gebbies Pass before heading up to the Ahuriri Reserve and onto The Crater Rim Trail track. Sidling around the rim of an extinct volcano (12million years ago) in Christchurch’s Port Hills, this is an intensely scenic, trail running adventure. To be eligible to compete in the 2020 Athletics New Zealand Trail Running Championships you must be a current competitive member of an Athletics NZ Affiliated Club as of race day.
