Following the latest High Performance Sport New Zealand (HPSNZ) funding announcement for the Paris-cycle, Athletics NZ would like to acknowledge our partnership with HPSNZ and we are grateful for their ongoing support.
Transitioning to the new Targeted Investment Framework for 2022-24, Athletics NZ is pleased to receive an increase of funding for our highly successful Para programme, which won three gold and seven medals at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games.
We have, however, received a reduction in funding for our able-bodied programme and are currently seeking clarity on this decision because we have a greater depth of world-class athletes than for the previous cycle.
Athletics NZ is still working through the implications of the new high performance funding model for 2022-24. We have only just received the information and we are seeking further detail. We hope to receive further clarification by mid-January.
Dame Valerie Adams and Tom Walsh won shot put bronze medals and the New Zealand athletics team claimed a total of six top 10 finishes in athletics at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
