Kids XC Series in Dunedin a resounding success

Creating fun-filled and action-packed events were at the heart of Ariki Athletics Club’s Kids XC Series held in Dunedin across winter.

The hugely successful three-event series encouraged children to have a go at cross-country running in an exciting and non-competitive environment, with each participant receiving a ribbon on finishing.

The Kids XC Series, held at Rotary Park, Chisholm Links Golf Course and Chingford Park, saw children tackle a variety of obstacles that were different from those at a normal cross-country event.

They negotiated “snakes and ladders”, climbed a hill called “Mt Everest” and hurtled though tyres and over padding.

The entry fee for participants was a can of food which was donated to a local food bank. With an average of 60 children completing each event, around 300 cans of food were donated.

Ariki Athletics Club are looking forward to continuing this concept over the next few years.
