Kiwi Athletes Hamish Kerr and Anna Grimaldi Finalists for Sporting Moment of the Year

Two of New Zealand’s standout athletes, Hamish Kerr and Anna Grimaldi, have been named finalists for New Zealand’s Favourite Sporting Moment at the 62nd ISPS Handa Halberg Awards. This prestigious category, the only one decided by public vote, showcases ten unforgettable moments from 2024 that captured the hearts of Kiwi sports fans.
Hamish Kerr’s electrifying gold medal in the dramatic Olympic high jump final jump-off in Paris is one of the standout moments. Equalling his PB and Oceania Record of 2.36 on the biggest stage in the world is the definition of rising to the occasion. His celebratory run through the infield of the Stade de France to take a triumphant bow in front of over 75000 fans is a moment that won’t leave the hearts of Kiwi sporting fans!
Anna Grimaldi’s inspiring victory in the 200m T47 at the Paris 2024 Paralympics is the only para-sport moment to make the finalists list. Overcoming the heartbreak of falling just one centimetre short of a third straight Paralympic long jump medal to triumph just a day later is one of the most heartwarming sporting moments of 2024. The medal was memorable for the whole nation as Anna won New Zealand’s only gold at the Paralympic Games.
These two moments, among others, reflect the spirit of perseverance, sportsmanship, and excellence that defines New Zealand athletics. Fans can now vote for their favourite moment, with voting open until 8:15 p.m. on February 18, 2025. New Zealanders can vote once a day to help crown the nation’s favourite sporting memory! The winner will be announced live at the ISPS Handa Halberg Awards shortly after voting closes, also on February 18, 2025.
Support Hamish and Anna by voting and celebrating the incredible achievements that make us proud!
