Olympic Medalists Set for Rematch at Diamond League Final in Brussels

All three Olympic shot put medalists from the Paris 2024 Games will reunite for a thrilling rematch at the Diamond League Final in Brussels on Friday, September 13. Maddison-Lee Wesche of New Zealand, silver medalist at the Paris Games, will go head-to-head once again with gold medalist Yemisi Ogunleye of Germany and bronze medalist Song Jiayuan of China, setting the stage for an exciting competition.

Fresh from her silver medal success in Paris, Wesche is gearing up for another standout performance at the Diamond League Final in Brussels. The 25-year-old shot putter has had a career-best season, including a personal best throw of 19.86 meters, which put her on the podium at the 2024 Summer Olympics. With a consistent year of high-level performances, Wesche is aiming to finish her season on a high.

She will face strong competition from Germany’s Yemisi Ogunleye, who claimed gold in Paris with a last-round throw of 20.00 meters. Also in the field is China’s Song Jiayuan, who secured the bronze medal at the Olympics and boasts a personal best of 20.38 meters.

This highly anticipated rematch is expected to be thrilling, with each athlete eager to leave their mark at the season’s final major event. USA’s Chase Jackson, who holds a personal best of 20.76 meters, and Canada’s Sarah Mitton, with a personal best of 20.68 meters are the other leading contenders, who will also challenge for top honours, adding even more depth to the field.
