My Favourite – Livvy Wilson

Ahead of the Oceania Area Championships in Mackay, Australia (7-11 June) we turn the spotlight on experienced sprinter Livvy Wilson who earlier this year won a national senior 100m bronze medal and featured as one quarter of the New Zealand record-breaking 4x100m team.

Favourite achievement in athletics

Winning bronze in the women’s 100m at the 2022 nationals. After a few setbacks with injuries in 2020 and 2021 this one meant the most.

Favourite athletics venue

Without a doubt Mitre 10 Sports Park in Hastings. The predominant tailwinds are ideal for sprinting and the warm evenings make for speedy racing! The officials are also super friendly. 

Favourite piece of coaching advice

Have fun and enjoy the process, you won’t be an athlete forever so enjoy every minute of it. 

Favourite training session

Overspeed followed by flying 30’s. I am also a sucker for a max strength session in the gym. 

Favourite athlete of All time

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. Not only for her genetic and physical gifts, but her unshakable belief in herself and her journey. 

Favourite Competition you’ve ever watched

TOKYO OLYMPICS! I was glued to the TV. There were so many incredible performances across track and field. The men and women’s 100m finals were next level. 

Favourite school athletics memory

Winning my high school 1500m. Running more than one lap for a sprinter is no small feat. 

Favourite athletics roommate

Any of my training partners, although Portia Bing is a great cook which is an added roommate bonus. 

Favourite pre-competition song

Anything with Sub Focus in it! 

Favourite pre-competition snack

Peanut butter and jam on toast. A classic. 

Favourite other sport

Touch Rugby. 

Favourite ice cream flavour

Sea salt caramel.

No favourite! Every day is a great day.

Furby’s we’re a hit.

Nature and the amazing East Coast beaches. We are so spoilt in New Zealand!
