Manawatu Whanganui Cross Country Championships, Bason Botanical Gardens – 9 July 2022
Five times national senior champion over 10,000m, half and full marathon Sally Gibbs won the senior women’s 8km in 39:55. The 59-year-old was well clear of second placed Stephanie Walker 42:16 with Anita Chan third in 44:10. Damien Lardner won the senior men’s 10km in 41:59 from Matt Bailey and Mark Searle.

Master men 8km, David Lovelock 34:07, Brendon Sharratt 34:46, Andrew Davenport 39:40. Master men 60 plus 8km, Dave Scott 42:53, Rob Dabb 43:04, Kevin Rolls 45:44. Master women 5km Dorota Starzak 25:13, Juanita Paterson 26:26, Kate Southern 27:14.

Canterbury Cross Country Championships, Halswell Quarry – 9 July 2022
National junior steeplechase champion in 2020 and runner up in the senior championship this year Eva Pringle won the senior women’s title over 10km in 38:02. Olivia Ritchie was second in 38:40 and Anne McLeod third in 39:41. Chloe Hughes won the U20 6km in 24:29 and Niamh Motley the U18 4km in 16:19. The first three in the master women 6km Fiona Crombie 24:47, Annie Radecki 25:31 and Nicola Handley 25:53.

Daniel Balchin who last won the Canterbury title in 2016 and 2017 won the senior men’s 10km in 32:55. The twice national 10km road champion edged out Caden Shields by two seconds with Cameron Clark third in 33:05, followed in by Oska Baynes 33:09 and Ieuan van der Peet 33:56. U20 8km Ethan Smoleji 28:02, Tram O’Callaghan 28:34, Theo Walker 28:50. U18 6km Daniel Prescott 20:15, Pai Wynyard 20:34, Luke Johnston 20:43.

World Masters Track and Field Championships, Tampere, 29 June-10 July:

The small New Zealand team finished the championships claiming 13 medals, seven gold, five silver and one bronze and set one world masters record and three New Zealand masters records.

5 July: Gold medal Helena Dinnissen W35 LJ 5.68m +2.4 (1), also 5.53m +1.0.

6 July: Gold medals to Corinne Smith W55 20km race walk 2:06:06 (1) and Jacqueline Wilson W75 20km race walk 2:25:37 PB (1), breaks the 2018 world record of Hannele Kivistö of Finland (2:30:30) and sets a New Zealand W75 record. Helena Dinnissen W35 HJ 1.50m (5). Tarmo Rajasaari M60 PV NH.
