International Track Meeting, Ngā Puna Wai Sports Hub – 19 February 2023
Rosie Elliott followed up a meeting record of 11.57 in the 100m with a sensational 200m in 22.81 to erase Monique Williams’ New Zealand national record of 22.90 set at the World Championships in Berlin in 2009 and her resident record of 23.15 set in Wellington that same year.

Nine meeting records were set: Tiaan Whelpton 100m 10.25, Connor Bell discus throw 64.65m, Anthony Nobilo hammer throw 66.95m, Aiden Hinson (Australia) triple jump 16.72m, Rosie Elliott 100m 11.57 and 200m 22.81, Anna Percy 100m hurdles 13.77, Desleigh Owusu (Australia) triple jump 13.38m, Maddie Wilson high jump 1.82m.

Tom Walsh set a stadium record of 21.80m in the shot put his longest throw in New Zealand for five years (since his New Zealand resident record mark of 22.67m set in Waitakere in March 2018).

Jessica Mayho of Great Britain won the women’s hammer with a throw of 61.93m.

Rorie Poff added 13cm on his national senior and men’s U20 F34 shot put record with a best of 7.26m to take victory. Double Paralympic sprint medallist Danielle Aitchison (T36) on world record percentage claimed the 100m and 200m double in 14.16 (3.0) and 30.29 (1.5) respectively.

Obituary

Long standing teacher of Palmerston North Boys High School Robin ‘Digger’ Doyle has passed away in Christchurch. He taught at PNBHS from 1973 to 2020 and coached athletics and rugby. He is credited with training a small group of athletes with lots of natural ability into becoming a New Zealand champion winning team and making them believe in themselves and training country boys into being New Zealand ranked sprinters.
