North Harbour Bays convincingly won the senior women’s 67.4km seven lap event after leading from lap two. It was the club’s tenth win since their first at Akaroa in 1997.

Anneke Grogan had a great duel with Auckland City Athletics’ Maiya Christini early on in the first lap, before Christini moved ahead to finish with a 57 second advantage as she handed over to Olivia Burne. Hayley Green with the fastest second lap forged the Bays team ahead and a series of strong legs allowed them to seize control of the race through to the finish, anchored by Annika Pfitzinger. Sabrina Piras and Lucy Jacobs had earlier both captured fastest time honours.

Annie Bond brought Wellington Harrier Athletic Club through to second on lap six and Emily McNaughton, with the fastest final lap, held off any challenge from Don Greig Racing Stables for the silver medal.

With three fastest laps including a lap record, University of Canterbury were a class act leading throughout the senior men’s relay to break the drought of nine years, claiming the sought after title in an outstanding race record of 3:30:03. This carved nearly five minutes off Wellington Scottish’s 2002 record.

Andy Good was away smartly for Canterbury on lap one with Seamus Kane of Scottish in hot pursuit. Good clocked in nearly a minute ahead of Tayler Reid for Pakuranga to hand over to Tom Moulai. Oska Baynes ran a solid third lap before Chris Dryden left no doubt as to which was the better team on the day with a slashing 9.7km fourth lap out along Makino and Makara Roads in 29:22 to slice 33 seconds off Dale Warrander’s 2002 lap record. Saxon Morgan had the fastest fifth lap and Daniel Balchin and Connor Melton had no trouble steering them home.

Pakuranga finished over six minutes later with Scottish, winners for the last five years, third.

Pakuranga edged out defending champions Feilding Moa in the junior men’s event to claim their first title in this grade. Lap records were broken by Benjamin Wall (Feilding Moa) on lap one 6.5km 21:17, knocking 12 seconds off Carl McKenzie’s 2006 time; Ronan Lee (Pakuranga) on lap three 5.9km 19:19, 20 seconds faster than Greg Brockbank in 2006 and Ronan Codyre (Pakuranga) on the last lap 4.3km 13:15, one second faster than Tim Hodge in 2003 and Julian Matthews in 2006.

The Olympic Harrier and Athletic Club recorded their first win in the junior women. Sophie Robb had Papakura leading after the first lap, but Ava Sutherland wasted no time on the second lap stamping the Olympic name on the title and they led through to Jess Hughes anchoring them home.

Seven-time champions Auckland City Athletics were second with defending champions WHAC third.

Scottish were clear winners of both the 35-49 and 50-59 masters men’s relays, with the re-emerging Owairaka taking second in both. Owairaka won the inaugural senior men’s title in 1977 and Owairaka women have nine titles to their credit including eight in a row from 1988.

Athletics Nelson reclaimed the masters men 60 plus relay making it seven titles in nine years.

The masters women 35-49 went to WHAC while Scottish made it two years in a row in the master women 50 plus.

Trentham United Harriers and Walkers team of Jackie Wilson, Clive McGovern, Ron Soper, Daniel Du Toit, John Roskvist and Danielle McLean won the open walk relay and Christchurch Avon took out the social relay.

Wellington Scottish was named the top club, winning on a count back from Wellington Harrier Athletic Club after they initially scored equal points. Scottish have now won the title 14 times in the last 20 years.
