NELSON
Kirsten Hellier Coaching Session – 10/11 August 2019
Athletics New Zealand High Performance Coach, Kirsten Hellier presented a weekend of coaching to a group of Nelson and Marlborough athletes, from 10 year old beginners to masters, and coaches over the weekend.

It started with a weights session at the CLM Health and Fitness gym in Richmond with a small group of older athletes. Sessions covering warm-ups, exercises and drills, and all four throws followed at Nayland College. Fifteen athletes, five coaches and some parents were involved as Kirsten demonstrated, explained, questioned and generally enthused everyone. The young athletes worked on getting the basics right and having a go. For the more experienced throwers, it was about identifying faults and explaining how these could be corrected to achieve extra distance. For the coaches, it was great to be involved in the discussion of identifying and correcting various problems.
