New Zealand Long Course 100km Trail Championship, Woodside Train Station, Greytown – 23 November 2024

Accomplished ultra distance runner Sam Hansby of Wellington was outstanding winning the grueling men’s title by nearly an hour. The 34-year-old representative at the 2023 world championships in Austria recorded a time of 11:07:39, a fresh race record. Josh Campbell of Trentham was a distant second in 11:57:48 with Andy Crosland (Wellington) third in 12:01:47.
Julia Chamberlain from Wanaka won the national women’s title in 12:27:17. The 28-year-old was two hours ahead of Lara Zoeller (14:27:11) with Richele McKenzie third in 16:04:46, both from Wellington Scottish.

McKinnon Shield #4, Mt Smart Stadium – 23 November 2024

Jacqui Nasrabadi and Madison Earley went neck and neck in the 100m, with Nasrabadi getting the decision both timed at 12.35, which was a PB for Earley.
Mia de Jager was a clear winner of the 200m in 24.60. Personal bests to Hannah McManus in the 800m in 2:15.30 and Isabella Pickering in the 3000m in 10:30.27. Yandri Fourie went under her previous best in the 3000m race walk with 16:29.03.
Nyla Spencer clocked her best time of 45.96 in the 300m hurdles and Fernanda Tirado was out to her best 3kg hammer throw of 57.94m. National under 17 record holder Paige Fletcher threw 58.52m.
Paddy Walsh broke her own national Para Athlete T64 women open and under 20 long jump record of 4.40m set at the national championships in March with a leap of 4.67m +1.7.
Daniel Hayes just edged out Jack Paine to win the 3000m in a personal best 8:25.86, Paine recording 8:25.92. Further back in the field 12 year old Leo Green set an Auckland boys 12 record of 9:29.01, breaking David Lee’s 2009 time of 9:44.11.
Troy Middleton collected the sprint double in 10.68 and 21.62 both aided by a strong tail wind. Noah Retford had a PB of 38.38 in the .838 300m hurdles as did Benjie Fairclough with 40.65.

Auckland City Athletics, Mt Smart Stadium – 20 November 2024
Fifteen year old Sam Ruthe highlighted an evening of outstanding middle distance racing which saw numerous personal best performances achieved and an impressive New Zealand record set.
Ruthe in chopped 24 seconds off his previous best 3000m clocked a world class time for his age of 8:09.68, setting a fresh national under 17 and under 18 record.
The Athletics Tauranga athlete broke Nicholas Moulai’s under 17 record of 8:16.77 set eight years ago at Douglas Track and Field Henderson and Christian de Vaal’s under 18 two year old record, set at Pakuranga, of 8:10.72.
Full credit also to second placed Caleb Wagener, ten days off his 17th birthday, who was aiming for the national under 17 record, coming away with a 13 seconds PB of 8:14.06.
George Wyllie was next in 8:27.14, followed by Hamish Murray 8:29.66 PB, Toby Tasker 8:33.28 and Redd Scampion 8:34.93 PB. Craig Kirkwood coaches Ruthe, Wyllie and Murray.
Moses Mosop of Kenya, 20 days before his 15th birthday ran 7:48.90 for 3000m in 2000 and 15 year old Yomif Kejelcha of Ethiopia ran 7:53.56 for 3000m in 2013.
Ronan Lee aiming for the entry standard of 29:45.00 for the Zatopek 10 in Melbourne on 14 December cut 14 seconds of his previous best running the 25 laps in 29:36.94.
Daniel Hayes ran 31:40.52 and Mariano Piagentini 32:40.43 PB.

Tommy Te Puni continued his outstanding early season form with two top sprinting performances. The 22 year old was second in the 100m in a PB 10.51 -0.2 and just over an hour later he was back on the track winning the 200m in a PB 20.75 -1.1.
Te Puni posted a PB 200m of 20.89 in Hamilton last week and the week before in Auckland set a personal best 400m of 46.28.
In the 100m in Brisbane Mogammad Smith was fifth in 10.62.
