Performance Development Initiatives (PDIs) provide emerging athletes and coaches with opportunities to develop the skills, knowledge, and experiences needed to progress within the Athletics New Zealand pathway. Delivered through a range of camps, workshops, training environments, and targeted support opportunities, these initiatives help participants build capability, gain exposure to high-performance expectations, and enhance their daily training environment (DTE).Performance Development Initiatives are delivered across three key areas:

Targeted High-Performance Development:

Individualised support for targeted athletes and coaches through performance profiling, testing, training opportunities, and immersion experiences that prepare participants for future high-performance environments.

Event Group Development:

Tailored development opportunities designed to meet the specific needs of each event group, supporting technical, tactical, physical, and coaching development.

Regional Performance Development:

Regional camps and development opportunities that provide a holistic approach to athlete and coach development, building fundamental skills, knowledge, and connections within local athletics communities.

The Athletics New Zealand Performance Development Initiatives are designed to enhance, not replace, the athletes Daily Training Environment or existing regionally based Athlete Support Programmes, Scholarships and Grant Funding.
