Horizontal & High Jump Event Group Plan

Jumping events in New Zealand (Long, Triple and High Jump) has rapidly gained momentum over the past year with an impressive 7 athletes (5 able-bodied and 2 para) achieving conditional selection at the pinnacle competition for 2023 (World Championships). The increase of athletes achieving these standards has been developed through innovative programs and camps; athlete selection in High Performance programs; coach development; athlete/coach engagement and collaboration; plus, many community-based initiatives.

High-Performance coach Terry Lomax has been instrumental as the Event Group Lead. Following on from the Ed Fern’s vision to blend both music and competition with Jumps to Music, Terry added the Rhythm and Jumps competition with a weekend focus for jumps. This has captured the attention of many jumpers across the country and is an integral part of the events calendar for Athletics New Zealand. It is initiatives such as this one, that help create excitement, interest and a carnival atmosphere that engages those who attend.
