Portia Bing won the women’s sprint double with 11.91 0.0 over 100m and 24.79 +0.2 over 200m. Jordyn Blake 12.45 and 25.75.

Rebekah Greene was five seconds outside her personal best with a comfortable win in the women’s mile in 4:38.10, to better her last year’s meeting record of 4:42.46. Rosa Twyford posted a PB of 4:44.00 in second followed by Katherine Camp 4:51.64 and Eva Pringle 4:58.50 PB.

NEW ZEALAND ATHLETES RANKED BY TRACK & FIELD NEWS FOR 2023
Seven New Zealand athletes have received a world ranking, in the top 10, by the authoritative American magazine Track & Field News for 2023.
Tom Walsh 2nd in the shot put, Tori Peeters 5th in the javelin throw, Jacko Gill 6th in the shot put, Hamish Kerr 6th in the high jump, Geordie Beamish 7th in the steeplechase, Eliza McCartney 7 th in the pole vault and Maddi Wesche 9th in the shot put.

NEW YEAR ROYAL HONOURS
Geoff Lienert of Waimate received the QSM, Queen’s Service Medal for services to sports administration particularly cycling and athletics.

He has contributed to sporting and community organisations in Waimate over the past 40 years, benefiting the people in the Waimate district and wider South Canterbury region.

He joined the Waimate Harriers Club in 1983 and has been secretary since 1986, encouraging people of all ages to run and walk. As a member of the Sport Waimate Committee, he volunteers his time to support the delivery of sports programmes in local primary schools. Since 2008 he has been a member of the Waimate Trackways Committee, undertaking track maintenance for running and cycle races, and helping to select courses. He has been on the committee of the Whitehorse Big Easy Charity Run for five years. He is a Life Member of St Andrews Cycling Club, Waimate Caledonian Society and Waimate Harriers. Mr Lienert received a Waimate District Council Civic Award in 2015 for his contribution to sport in the area and an Athletics New Zealand Long Service Award in 2003.

OBITUARY
Takapuna Athletic Club stalwart Mike Hartshorne passed away on Saturday 16 December 2023 aged 81.
Mike was a long standing President of the Club, 1994 to 2022, and a regular delegate for the Club to Auckland Centre junior committee meetings and Centre AGMs. Mike was made a Life Member of the Club.
He conducted the Club’s weekly athletic meeting on Wednesday evenings at Onewa Domain, enabling thousands of children to experience athletics, build self-confidence and form lasting friendships.
Having served the sport for nearly 40 years, Mike and his wife Meryl have had a profound influence on grass roots athletics in Auckland. They both received an Athletics New Zealand Long Service Award in 2019.
His grandchildren, running for Takapuna, Romey Jewell G12, second in the 400m 61.82, and Miller Jewell B10 competed this last weekend at the Colgate Games.
A Quantity Surveyor Mike was President of the New Zealand Institute of Quantity Surveyors 1983-84.
