Athletics NZ has confirmed that the 2025 Jennian Homes New Zealand Track & Field Championships in Dunedin has been brought forward by one week and will now take place at the Caledonian Ground on Thursday-Sunday (6-9 March).

It was announced last December that the championships would be held on 13-16 March, however, the decision has been taken to bring forward the dates for the 2025 edition to better maximise the chances of attracting New Zealand’s premier elite athletes with the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China scheduled for 21-23 March.

Athletics NZ Competitions Manager Jason Cameron said: “We have taken the decision to bring forward the 2025 nationals to enhance the likelihood of attracting more of our elite performers to the event. Having a two-week gap between nationals and World Indoor Champs will provide more scope for them to compete, and having more of our marquee athletes in Dunedin will help raise the profile of the event and lead to a better athlete experience for all.”

LOC Chair Raylene Bates said: “We hope the new dates for the 2025 Jennian Homes New Zealand Track & Field Championships will best showcase the pinnacle domestic event on the athletics calendar. We know Dunedin will provide a great host for the championships and we can’t wait to see the best athletics talent in Aotearoa competing at the Caledonian Ground next March.”

The Caledonian Ground – which recently secured an extension to their World Athletics Track Certification until 2027 – last staged the New Zealand Track & Field Championships in 2016 and in 2025 will stage its eighth New Zealand Track & Field Championships in the past 50 years.
