Course unveiled for innovative 2024 NZ Road Relay Championships

The Taupo Motorsport Park will provide a unique experience for participants and spectators at the 2024 New Zealand Road Relays Championships.

The categories, lap order and distances have been confirmed for the 2024 New Zealand Road Relay Championships to be hosted at the high-octane Taupo Motorsport Park on Saturday 28 September.

The dynamic and vibrant closed-circuit course promises to serve up a national road relay experience to remember with the unveiling of the 3.35km International Circuit and 2.3km National circuit laps.

With shortest legs of 4.6km and the longest at 10km of gentle elevation on a smooth-running surface, participants will pass through the pitlane – the all-action and high energy mixed zone near their allocated team garages – in and out of their respective laps, change over and finish area.

The race will serve up different championship grades of seven, six or four laps and also offer social/community and corporate relays and U14 and U12 non-championship race options – which will offer a more inclusive feel to the latest New Zealand Road Relays Championship event.

Serving up a festival-style atmosphere with live music and other entertainment around the pitlane area, Taupo Motorsport Park will also offer hospitality suites available for hire above the pitlane with leaderboard updates throughout the race.

Athletics NZ Competitions Manager Jason Cameron said: “The 2024 New Zealand Road Relay Championships promising to a unique experience offering the very best of a closed-circuit course.

“With many innovative features from the leaderboard, pitlane and transition zone with music pumping and entertainment the 2024 version will offer something genuinely unique, so I would encourage club athletes, recreational athletes or kids to come on aboard and fully embrace this festival of running.”

One of the marquee days on the Athletics NZ calendar is not one to be missed. Entries open no later than week beginning Monday 8 July.
