Then ‘Take on the Lake’ at the Rotorua Marathon on Saturday May 7.

Affectionately known as the “People’s Marathon” New Zealand’s most iconic marathon is now into its 58th year.

And while the 42.2km “lap of the lake” around Lake Rotorua remains its ultimate challenge, there are a number of other compelling and unique race options guaranteed to meet the needs of runners and walkers of all standards.

Besides the classic full marathon test, the Red Stag Timber Half Marathon (21.1km) will take place off-road in Rotorua’s enchanting Whakarewarewa Forest among the stunning redwood trees.

For others seeking a shorter distance, the popular Go Media 10km – which includes an attractive teams event – traverses the magical geothermal landscape of the Sulphur Flats and the beautiful redwood forest

The 5.5km fun run and walk is also not one to be missed as it takes in some of Rotorua’s most iconic sights. Starting in Government Gardens it will traverse the surreal Sulphur Flats and back on to the marathon course to the finish line.
