The New Zealand Combined Events Championships for senior men and women will take place as part the 2022 Jennian Homes New Zealand Track & Field Championships in Hastings from 4-6 March.

Due to challenges of finding a suitable host for the annual event, the decision was made to include it within the schedule at next year’s leading event of the domestic season. The combined event championships offer the chance for athletes to pursue selection on the 2022 Commonwealth Games team in Birmingham and will be limited to eight senior men and eight senior women.

The New Zealand 2022 Combined Event Championship for U18 and U20 athletes will take place as part of the North Island and Auckland Combined Events Championships at Mt Smart Stadium, Auckland on 26-27 March.

The decision was made to make the U18 and U20 national combined events championships separate from the seniors because it would have placed too much pressure on the already packed schedule for the 2022 New Zealand Track & Field Championships.

Athletics NZ Combined Events Lead Terry Lomax said: “Finding a host for the combined events championships proved a challenging process, however, I’m sure the competing athletes will be pleased with the outcome. The senior men and senior women will get the chance to compete in front of a large and passionate crowd in Hastings, which I’m sure will help inspire them to some top performances.”
