Book Launch

Long jumper Dame Yvette Williams was New Zealand’s first women’s Olympic Gold medallist at Helsinki in 1952 and only now has her biography been written. Its 232 pages includes 41 illustrations and author Angela Walker has drawn on never-before-seen diaries, as well as interviews with the late Kiwi icon to recreate the day-to-day world of Yvette Williams. ‘Ideals Are Like Stars’ is a remarkably intimate narrative of one of our finest athletes.

The publishers are holding a virtual launch to celebrate this on Thursday 14 April at 7.30pm. Details of the online event are here
