Oklahoma Throws Series, Millican Field at Throw Town, Ramona OK, 14 April:

Connor Bell bettered the Paris Olympic Games qualifying standard with a New Zealand national record of 68.10m in finishing fifth. Bell set a PB and national record of 66.71m in Los Angeles a week after winning the national title in Wellington. His throw of 68.10m in Oklahoma came in the second round, nearly a metre over the Olympic qualifying mark of 67.20m. Bell’s series was 60.07, 68.10, 62.77, 66.91, 66.66, 66.22.

Australian Athletic Championships, SA Athletics Stadium, Adelaide – 11/19 April 2024

New Zealand under 20 relay teams excelled setting New Zealand records in the 4 x 400m relays. The men’s team of Kadin Taylor, Thomas Cowan, Kahurangi Cotterill and James Ford finished third in 3:13.09 breaking the NZ under 19 record of Daniel Dyet, Matthew Robinson, Alex Jordan and Joseph Millar who recorded 3:13.70 in 2010.
In the women Merielle Venida, Samantha Lascelles, Kate Borton and Amelie Fairclough were second in 3:41.76 for a NZ under 20 and under 19 record, breaking Kristie Baillie, Hazel Bowering-Scott, Angela Petty and Abigail Watson’s 2011 under 20 record of 3:45.27 and Maddi Kelso-Heap, Lucy Shennan, Grace Wisnewski and Amelie Fairclough’s 2023 under 19 record of 3:46.21.

DOMESTIC RESULTS

AUCKLAND

ACA Southland Centennial Shield Cross Country Relays, Sacred Heart College Glendowie – 13 April 2024

Whippets won both the senior men and senior women’s relays. Whippets men’s team of Charlie Buchanan, Ronan Lee, Jared Monk, Jack Paine and anchored home by Ben Hamilton in a fast 9:01 won the 5 x 3000m event in 45:55. Their B team were next in 48:34 chased by Pakuranga who were a close third in 48:35. Owairaka won the senior men handicap.

Whippets women’s team of Karen Donaldson-Barron, Kelly Parlane and Isabelle Bannister won the 3 x 3000m in 34:12 from TTT 34:28, Owairaka 34:53 and North Harbour Bays 36:18. Whippets also won on handicap.

TTT, led by Lisa Cross, won the master women 3 x 3000m in 34:13 from Oratia and TTT 50 plus team. Oratia won on handicap.

Pakuranga won the master men 4 x 3000m in 42:16 from Owairaka and Pakuranga, Lynndale taking out the handicap honours.

Auckland City Athletics won the under 20 men from Pakuranga who won on handicap. ACA also won the under 20 women and the handicap.
Pakuranga Red won the junior 4 x 2000m relay in 28:17 from their Blue team who also won the handicap. Moojin Lee recorded 6:34 and Leo Green 6:40 for the 2000m. The 2 x 3000m walk went to Pakuranga with the Pakuranga No 2 team winning the handicap.

TAURANGA
Invitational 3000m, Tauranga Domain – 14 April 2024

National under 20 5000m champion George Wyllie won in a PB 8:26.60. Callum Murray national under 20 mile bronze medallist was second also with a PB of 8:40.36.
