TURKEY

2024 World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships, Antalya, 21 April:

Jonah Cropp raced to a New Zealand U19 record in finishing 33rd in the 10km race walk in 43:45. This breaks Matthew Holcroft’s 2012 record of 45:30.

Laura Langley clipped a minute off her personal best with her time of 1:40:41 for 45th place in the women’s 20km.

10km; Jonah Cropp 43:45 PB NZ U19 record (33). Toby O’Rorke 47:04 PB (48). Isaac Beacroft (Australia) won in an Australian U20 record of 39:56.

20km; Alex Brown 1:54:38 (76). Perseus Karlstrom (Sweden) won in 1:18:49.

20km women; Laura Langley 1:40:41 PB (45), Arnika Nelson 1:50.34 PB (61). Kimberly Garcia Leon (Peru) won in 1:27:12.

AUSTRIA Vienna City Marathon, 21 April: Cameron Avery aiming for the Paris Olympic entry standard of 2:08:10, finished a creditable fifth in a PB 2:10:53, an improvement on his 2:12:30 in Shanghai in November last year. Avery is now ranked eighth on the New Zealand all-time list. He was through the half in 1:04:26.

SOUTH AFRICA

South African Championships, Msunduzi Stadium, 18 April: Ethan Olivier TJ 16.63m +0.3 (1), Welrè Olivier TJ 16.37m +0.1 (2). Talia Van Rooyen 100m H 14.06 +0.8 PB (4H2).

GREAT BRITAIN

London Marathon, 21 April: Blair McWhirter 2:24:42 (Half 1:12:19), (53), Alexander Geddes 2:31:56 PB (248), William Bielby 2:37:59 (588), William Tennet 2:40:41 (802). Alexander Mutiso Munyao (Kenya) won in 2:04:01 (Half 1:01:29). Abigail Geddes 3:00:38 (256), Bessie Clarke 3:12:18 (681), Emilee Williams 3:15:35 (881). Peres Jepchirchir (Kenya) set a women’s world record of 2:16:16 (Half 1:07:05), breaking Mary Keitany’s 2017 record of 2:17:01.

Australian Junior (Under Age) Championships, 14-19 April

World Junior Championships 800m Qualifier, Mt Smart Stadium – 20 April 2024

James Ford 1:49.53, Luke Hitchcock 1:55.35. Ford who has a PB of 1:49.08 was just outside the performance standard of 1:49.50.

CHRISTCHURCH

New Zealand Half Marathon Championship, Christchurch – 21 April 2024

National 10,000m champion Anneke Arlidge, with a massive personal best, collected the women’s title in 1:13:09, finishing over a minute ahead of the 2017 champion Annika Pfitzinger, who ran a PB

1:14:49. Katherine Camp, silver medallist in 2022 was third in 1:17:05, 19 seconds ahead of national marathon champion in 2023 Debbie Donald.

Michael Voss successfully defended his half marathon title in a quick 1:04:30, to add to the 10,000m crown won in Dunedin in January. Voss was 23 seconds outside his 2022 personal best on the Gold Coast.

Christopher Dryden was second in 1:05:10 followed by a string of PBs from Daniel Balchin 1:05:16, Julian Oakley 1:05:35, Nathan Tse 1:06:40 and Isaac Murphy 1:08:40. ROAD AND TRAIL RACES AROUND THE COUNTRY
