HASTINGS
25th Anniversary Potts Track and Field Classic, Incorporating New Zealand Under 20 Mile Championship, Mitre 10 Sports Park, Hawke’s Bay – 20 January 2024
Four meeting records and a New Zealand record were set at the successful 25th annual meeting.

National champion Lex Revell-Lewis revelled in the perfect conditions with a personal best and meeting record of 47.34 in the 400m. James Preston was just outside his best in setting a Potts record of 1:45.89 in the 800m.

Connor Bell extended his meet record in the discus throw to 64.78m and Anthony Nobilo is knocking on the door of a 70-metre throw with the hammer after adding over two metres to his record set last year with a throw of 69.72m. Nick Palmer set a PB in the shot put with 19.76m.

Boh Ritchie made it by 18 days before her 17th birthday in setting a New Zealand U17 800m record of 2:06.51 in finishing fourth in the Sylvia Potts Memorial Women’s 800m. Ritchie also set a performance standard mark for the World U20 Championships in Lima, Peru in August. Laura Nagel timed her finishing sprint to perfection to win the 800m in 2:05.37.

Zoe Hobbs collected her seventh Potts 100m title in 11.39 -0.7, heading in Australian Bree Masters and Rosie Elliott. In the earlier heats Hobbs clocked 11.24 +1.9.

National U20 mile titles went to James McLeay of Southland and Charo Heijnen of Tauranga.
