AUCKLAND
McKinnon Shield Meeting #5, Mt Smart Stadium – 2 December 2023
Zoe Hobbs opened her 2023-24 season winning the 60m on the new Mt Smart surface in 7.50 into a 4.1m/s head wind. Hobbs holds the Auckland 60m record of 7.33 and national indoor record of 7.13.

Abby Goldie, who was third in the 60m in 7.87, went on to win the 100m in 12.51 -2.7. Briana Stephenson was second in the 60m in 7.79 and later won the shot put with a PB of 10.92m.

Joseph Millar triumphed over Fergus McLeay in the sprints winning the 60m in 7.01 -2.6 and the 100m in 11.04 -2.3. Lex Revell-Lewis won the 400m in 47.62 heading in McLeay, who clocked 48.51, with Thomas Cowan third in 49.00. Zach Saunders was third in the 100m in 11.09 and fourth in the 400m in 49.53. Jeremiah Rogo 400m 49.94 PB.

OBITUARIES
Noel Taylor
, bronze medallist in the six miles at the 1950 Auckland British Empire Games at Eden Park, passed away on Thursday 23 November 2023 aged 99.
He also competed in the three miles at the Games. Taylor won the New Zealand six-mile title in 1950 and 1952 and the national cross country title in 1948, 1949 and 1952.
In December 1950 he competed for New Zealand in the Canterbury Centennial Games at Lancaster Park in the two miles and 5000m.

Leading marathon runner in 2020 Fabian Downs recently passed away in the UK, after suffering from cancer, aged 37. Downs arrived from Switzerland in October 2019 to take up a teaching position in languages and ESOL at Westlake Boys’ High School, where he also became involved with the school running programme. He joined the North Harbour Bays Club and won the 2019 Queenstown Marathon. He went on to finish second in the 2020 Auckland Marathon in 2:26:34 and second in the 2021 Hawkes Bay Marathon. He also won the 2020 Devonport Half Marathon. On the track he won the 2020 Auckland 3000m steeplechase title.
