WELLINGTON
20th Anniversary Capital Classic, Newtown Park – 2 February 2024
Sam Tanner notched up his ninth New Zealand senior title in five years with a personal best and meeting record of 7:50.26 in winning the national 3000m title.

With plenty of competition from his training partner Hayden Wilde, Tanner was set up for a fast time and with 800m remaining was in full flight. William Little dipped under eight minutes taking third in a PB 7:59.64.

Jonah Cropp continued his fine recent good form, setting a New Zealand U20 and U19 3000m race walk record of 12:16.43 PB. Laura Langley set a meeting record and a PB of 13:20.17 in the women’s 3000m race walk. Joshua Hawkins reduced his meeting record of 14.08 set last year in the 110m hurdles to 14.01 -0.7. Tommy Te Puni set a 400m meeting record of 47.26.
