Athletics New Zealand is pleased to be able to deliver the 2022 Jennian Homes New Zealand Track & Field Championships under the red traffic light setting. The event welcomes all competitors who have met a qualifying mark. However, to ensure we deliver the event safely, and in alignment with Sport NZ and government guidelines, there will be some restrictions on who can attend the event to support our athletes.

While we can operate in separate ‘pods’ of up to 100 under the red setting, each pod must have access to their own dedicated facilities such as entry/exit points and bathroom facilities. Based on the number of pods we can practically operate within the venue; we are not able to allow any supporters into the facility unless they meet one of the criteria below.

Some essential support personnel are required to run the meet effectively, and this includes team managers and coaches. These individuals are deemed ‘essential workers’ under the Sport NZ and government guidelines, so do not count towards the 100-person limit for pods within the event. However, there will be tight protocols around where team managers and officials can be in the venue to ensure safety and compliance. We will update with further details in due course.

This provision only applies to support personnel who meet one of the following criteria. To attend, you must complete a registration form which can be found HERE – and await confirmation from Athletics NZ that your application as an essential worker has been accepted. Registrations will close on 1 March 2022, but we encourage you to apply early.

Essential support personnel criteria

  1. Centre team managers who have a current Community Volunteer Membership or equivalent.
  2. Club team managers who have a current Community Volunteer Membership or equivalent.
  3. Accredited and Community Coach Members who are coaching athletes competing at the meet.
  4. Medical support. Team or personal medical support such as physiotherapists.
  5. Para athlete support for classifications T/F11-13, T/F20, T/F32-35, T/F51-54
  6. Individual athlete support on a case-by-case basis. Athletes must be able to demonstrate genuine need for support above and beyond team management.

Dependent on increasing Covid-19 case numbers and/or further tightening of government restrictions, these protocols may need to be tightened further.
