INTERNATIONAL RESULTS

MONACO
Diamond League, 36th Herculis EBS, Stade Louis II Monaco, 21 July: Geordie Beamish 3000m steeplechase, 8:13.26 (5) PB, New Zealand and Oceania Record, breaking 1984 Los Angeles Olympian Peter Renner’s record of 8:14.05 set in Koblenz, Germany on 29 August 1984. It is also under the qualifying standard of 8:15.00 for the 2023 World Athletics Championships and the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

It is the fifth New Zealand record the Colorado-based 26-year-old has set in the last two years. A prodigy of Alec McNab in Whanganui, Beamish has only competed in the senior steeplechase six times, starting this year in April with a time of 8:42.56 and he has improved his PB at each outing. He has yet to win a New Zealand senior title, having finished third in the 3000m and mile in 2021.

Simon Kiprop Koech of Kenya won in 8:04.19.

At the same meeting Faith Kipyegon (29) of Kenya, smashed the women’s world mile record with a time of 4:07.64. This breaks Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands 2019 record of 4:12.33.

Jacko Gill SP 21.11m (5) (x, 20.57, 20.63, 20.79, 21.11). Ryan Crouser won with 23.07m. Hamish Kerr HJ 2.24m (6) (2.12 o, 2.16 o, 2.20 o, 2.24 xxo, 2.27 xxx). JuVaughn Harrison USA won clearing 2.35m.

Ronan Lee won the senior 4km in 12:14, heading in Jono Jackson 12:22 and Rodwyn Isaacs 12:32. The women’s 4km went to Anneke Arlidge in 14:20 from Brigid Dennehy 14:31 and Niamh De Hora 14:45. Lisa Cross was the first master, completing the 4km in the same time of 14:20 as Arlidge.
